SMRT: Another “Commuters can choose” comment

In Infrastructure on 17/12/2011 at 11:08 am

So another failure, the third in four days, and the second breakdown in three days on the North South Line. Whoever said, “Lightning never strikes twice on the same spot”?

And here we have SMRT’s  head of communications telling people, “If you are stuck inside a train, never smash the windows or force the doors open. Stay calm and wait for help. … Senior vice-president for communications and services, Mr Goh Chee Kong, said that in the event of a power failure, there is a back-up system that will activate emergency lights within the carriages and provide ventilation”,  ST reported.

What the FISH! We should be told why the, “back-up system that will activate emergency lights within the carriages and provide ventilation” didn’t work. After all the commuters were suffocating.

Commuters should not be told that they must suffocate to death or suffer in the dark stale air, rather than damage SMRT property, if the back-up system fails to work. The head of corporate communications should know better what to communicate.

Is there any good manager at SMRT?

  1. Too bad. Daft Sinkies voted for PAP, so they deserve it. You die your business.

  2. YA! Ya! Hopefully, some of the the 60.1 % wake put now. You die your business is like winners take all.(Meritocracy all the way. Or you die your business).

  3. Vice President of SMRT should be fed with shit THE WAY HE TALKS the same way the train broke down. HE AND HIS WHOLE TEAM OUGHT TO BE SACKED FOR THE WAY THEY HANDLE THE TROUBLE THAT HAPPENED TO THE TRAINS. IDIOTS TOTALLY IDIOTS, BACKUPS SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY TAKE OVER FOR ANY AND EVERY EMENGENCIES, AND NOT WAIT FOR SMRT TO FEEL HAPPY THAN PROVIDE THE BACKUPS. AT ALL TIME AND MUST BE A MUST PRACTICE, CONTINGENCIES IS A MUST, I WILL STRESSED AGAIN IS A MUST TO BE PROVIDED.
Shameful very shameful it is a shame, to happen to a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY with first class managements for SMRT. They don’t feel shameful we feel shameful for them. What kind of a management is this management, handling the situation, failed to inform the proposed commuters who has to wait like stupid idiots for the trains. Why, why, why don’t the inform the commuters to go for alternate routes in the first instance as soon as there is a break down, but they prefer to remain to remain silent, why. Say what you like, these stupid idiots need seriously to be repremanded and scoldings.

  4. another good case of government link company advocating
“making money is my business but you die your business.”

and all these years what did our gahmen learnt ?

Instead of doing the right thing , it rather do thing right by “waiting for instruction from the government” while the meantime, the people inside the stuffy train suffocate like hell ….

  5. Please explain how the backup system which was supposed to,power up the lights and ventilation fans, did not work. Wasn’t the whole train plunged into darkness, and a suffocating atmosphere prevailed during the outage ?

Let’s get the facts right, ok Mr. Bloody SMRT VP, before you start whining about a pathetic little broken window, which probably averted the greater tragedy of mass suffocation.

  6. The least they should do is to at least keep up with the appearance of being concerned for the well being of the commuters. We have been draft for so long that they can’t be bothered with even that.

  7. I don’t blame him for his stupid moment. He’s probably a former civil servant appointed to his position and not really used to making public appearances and statements.

Others might say low EQ, but no, not really. Just that he’s used to speaking like that, like a master speaking down to his slaves or something.

What comes out of your mouth is, after all, a confession of character.

  8. Dear Detached Observer,

This idiot Goh was from MINDEF. He was even the MINDEF spokesman once.
Given how things work there, that’s why this turd doesn’t even know (or need to know) the basic public communication skills. He’s just an example of how those former military people are parachuted into cushy positions into TLCs. He probably can’t even string a sentence together, since his work is mostly done by his subordinates.

Put him in front of the cameras and you see his true self, unsupported by any subordinates.
Really sad for our country…really really sad.

  9. Is this Goh Chee Kong related to Chee Wee of Delgro?
