Can you imagine what the reaction would be if it was the opposition who suggested Singapore should have a Malay President?

‘This guy is trying to play race politics. What a dangerous game’

‘Singapore is a meritocracy. We have no place for affirmative action here.’

‘A President who is elected in such a way would not command the respect of the populace. They would think he is there not by his own merit.’

‘Malays already have our mosques, what more do we want??? Be grateful!’

‘Don’t upset the balance by pushing for something in the public space.’

But, since it’s not the opposition who suggested it, some people are tripping over themselves to assert that this is the best thing to happen to the Malays since teh tarik.
